Ben Wheatley, Britain's most intriguing director, delivers his most experimental film yet. This monochrome psychedelic horror is set during the English Civil War and is centred on a group of deserters who are captured by a sadistic alchemist.
The sicko needs the services of Reece Shearsmith's amateur alchemist to trace some “great treasure” in the countryside. After the crude group devour some magic mushrooms, matters go badly awry. Witchfinder General, David Lynch and Werner Herzog are clear influences on this very low-budget oddity.
