“I know too much about life to have any optimism,” is a typically bleak quip from struggling stand-up Louis CK, describing new relationships.

“I’ve seen my best years,” adds the 45-year-old, recent divorcé who is raising two daughters in the midst of a midlife crisis. The portly New Yorker visits a perverse shrink, but mostly he has a series of disastrous dates – one woman flees from him in a helicopter – and struggles for happiness and serenity. Refreshingly honest and consistently funny.
