DVD: Mary & Max, For rental & retail (Soda Pictures)
Barry Humphries narrates this Claymation tale of a correspondence between portly Australian eight-year-old Mary and her pen pal Max, a 44-year-old New Yorker with Asperger's (voiced by Philip Seymour Hoffman).
Utterly convincing, their letters flit between subjects as various as love, communism, neology and friendship. It struggles to maintain the emotion, but the final scene is as tear-inducing as any you will see.
