DVD review: Katyn, For retail & rental (Artificial Eye)

Andrzej Wajda's Oscar-nominated feature takes its core from one of the most shocking massacres of the Second World War, when, in March 1940, 22,000 Poles were executed by the Soviets in Katyn forest, including 8,000 military officers.

Katyn follows not only their lives, shut up in internment camps, but also the interweaving stories of their families waiting for them, and the post-war Russian propaganda cover-up. A stunning piece of work, as educational as it is emotive.
