A non-genre film without any big names – it's understandable why distributors might have been scared off by Under the Mud.
If only they'd seen it. Playing like a Scouse Shameless, this is an upbeat micro-budget comedy-drama about family life on a Liverpool estate. One could grumble about unnecessary graphics, but that would be churlish. For a film written in conjunction with local teenagers, this is both accomplished social project and charming fairytale.
