Toothsome English rose Anna (Felicity Jones) and earnest American furniture maker Jacob (Anton Yelchin) fall in love while she is studying in LA.
He makes her a chair; she gives him some romantic doodlings. And then she overstays her student visa, gets in trouble for it and their love, over time, founders, as they're unable to maintain a long-distance relationship. This could have been excruciating, but it's actually profoundly touching and redolent of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides, Now".
