Failure to Launch (12A)
Matthew McConaughey is 35 and still living at home, but do his parents kick him out? No, they hire Sarah Jessica Parker, who promises to make McConaughey fall in love with her, so he'll grow up and move out of his own accord. And that's her job, apparently. That's what she does for a living. And if you buy that, you should buy the scene in which someone shoots a bird and then gives it mouth-to-beak resuscitation.
A film that tries to distract us from its contrived premise by being even more contrived elsewhere, its only saving grace is that McConaughey's preening egotist and Parker's duplicitous trout deserve each other.
