The Dark Is Rising, a pathologically unfaithful adaptation of Susan Cooper's children's novel. An American boy living in England is told by Ian McShane that it's his destiny to vanquish the forces of darkness by locating six Signs that have been scattered through time and space. The Dark Is Rising starts with some genuine magic and mystery, but the hero is even less brave and noble than the one in Stardust. For most of the film he whinges about being superhuman, and then at the en he gets big-headed about it.
