The Moguls (15)

The Moguls is an American indie version of the post-Ealing Full Monty scenario in which a bunch of men need money, and do something out of the ordinary to get it. It stars Jeff Bridges as the divorced dad who's "had enough of not having enough", and who hits on the idea of producing an amateur porn film with his barfly friends, Ted Danson and Tim Blake Nelson among them. Considering what this entails, The Moguls is a sweet, big-hearted comedy that's about as risqué as Calendar Girls: the would-be pornographers even turn away from the action, as it were, while they're filming. Bridges embodies a lackadaisical charm that's hard to resist, even if Michael Traeger's rambling script and uncertain direction aren't much more professional than his characters'.
