An exclusive clip from Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams’ new film The Falling sees her character dramatically faint.

Williams, best known for her role as Arya in HBO’s global series Game of Thrones, stars in the film that follows the lives of two rebellious English schoolgirls in the 1960s.

After a tragedy occurs at their school Lydia (played by Williams) and Abbie (played by newcomer Florence Pugh) become the epicentre of a mysterious fainting epidemic.

In the exclusive clip, Williams’ character confronts her teacher Miss Mantel, played by Greta Scacchi, telling her: “I’m late.”

When the teacher, and deputy headmistress of the girls’ school, fails to react Williams drops her belongings and – first hitching up her school uniform skirt – dramatically faints in the full classroom.

Director Carol Morley, who previously worked on documentaries, has spoken of the film having a strong supernatural element.

“For me there is something supernatural about mass psychogenic outbreaks, they are so potent and mysterious,” she told The Independent.

Speaking about 17-year-old Williams’ character, Morely said she goes through the “most difficult” journey in the film as she attempts to unwrap the mystery at the heart of the school.
