Sir: Anne McElvoy says the Prince of Wales receives a generous allowance from the Civil List. He doesn't.

His income is derived from the Duchy of Cornwall, whose estate is run on a commercial basis as prescribed in parliamentary legislation. Only the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen Mother receive allowances from the Civil List.
