Sir: Part of the problem at Dover is that the 750 asylum-seekers are concentrated in a very small area of the town where accommodation happens to be available. In the part of Dover where I am fortunate enough to live - although we are of course aware of the problem - we only heard of the weekend disturbances through TV and radio, as I expect did Mr Aaronovitch.

I do not know where Mr Aaronovitch lives, but I wonder how long it would take for "narrow-mindedness", "prejudice" and "intolerance" to show themselves if 750 asylum-seekers appeared in his street of, say, 1,000.
