Gin on the NHS
Sir: Mike Goodman suggests that a liberal attitude to the suburban consumption of gin is a justification for making heroin freely available to addicts (Heroin UK, 12 May). Gin is not available, at no charge, on the NHS, and neither should heroin be. A fair comparison would be to make the drug available at a commercial price (plus, of course, a substantial excise levy). The "something for nothing" culture merely encourages the consumption of mood-altering substances. A double G&T for me, please - oh, and Mr Dobson's paying!
