Letter: In Brief
Sir: In your leader, "Laying the tracks for a new golden age of rail" (26 March), you look forward to a "rail renaissance".
This would be all the more welcome if a tiny part of new investment were earmarked for clearing away the filth that lines our rail tracks.
I am thinking of the plastic bags, rolls of linoleum, mattresses, oil drums, newspapers, broken slabs of concrete, plastic cups, beer cans and abandoned bits of railway equipment that can be observed throughout the rail system.
Surely Railtrack has an obligation to clean up this mess.
