Letter: In Brief
Sir: There is a possibility that lawyers who belong to campaigning groups may be disqualified from sitting as part-time as judges. Members of the judiciary have until now been trusted to set aside personal feelings which may be relevant to the case before them. Can we now expect to see this proposed ban extended to judges who hunt, or farm livestock, or have interests in the vivisection or armaments industries, so that no bias will be suffered by anti-hunt, animal welfare or environmental campaigners brought before them?
