Letter: In Brief
Sir: Whilst your leading article is right that "Universities must woo working-class students" (13 August), Oxbridge discrimination against non-public school applicants isn't all bad. The year in which I was rejected by Oxford, having attained four As and one B at A level, Prince Edward (who did not quite get those marks) was accepted. This helped turn a Conservative monarchist into a left-leaning republican with a sense of social injustice. What's more, I stopped reading The Daily Telegraph and began taking The Independent.
