Sir: So village England is haunted by fear of crime, says the WI (report, 6 July). Haven't they heard of Neighbourhood Watch? Bearing in mind the cost of policing, it is not practical to have a constable in every village as before the War. Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators maintain that link with the police.
