Letter: Judge and jury
Letter: Judge and jury
Sir: The vast majority of defendants in criminal cases are either-working class or even underclass. The court officials, including solicitors, barristers, magistrates and judges are usually middle-class. If juries are done away with, we could have the well-heeled judging the down-at-heel with a vengeance. Jack Straw should tread very carefully when he treads on our imperfect legal system.
