Letter: No compromise
Letter:
No compromise
Sir: Tony Blair expects too much of Gerry Adams and David Trimble when he demands that they compromise.
That "vast majority" in Northern Ireland who we all were led to believe wanted peaceful coexistence have let their views be known in election after election. They did not vote for "compromise" politicians. The Ian Paisley and Sinn Fein vote reflects the true situation. It has not changed significantly, despite the efforts of outsiders over the years.
A real solution will only be found when the Westminster politicians accept this and force the people of Ulster to examine their options realistically. Ulster will either be British or Irish. If they do not accept either of these uncompromising options, then Ulster must be declared independent.
