Letter: Portillo's record
Sir: Despite the shrill cries and wild claims of lobbyists opposed to Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988, I believe that many parents of children are, like myself, grateful for this block on the aggressive promotion of homosexuality in schools.
Orthodox Christians believe the practice of homosexuality to be sinful and morally unacceptable. The same can be said, I understand, of orthodox Jews and Muslims. Yet to express such concerns is to invite vilification as a "homophobe".
Sexual practice involves a moral choice. It cannot rightly be compared to issues such as race or gender that are covered by equal opportunities legislation. Yet increasingly the homosexual lobby has been successful in blurring such valid distinctions, to the detriment of society.
