Letter: Voters vs parties

Sir: Tim Knight (letter, 22 June) and other defenders of party lists systems should remember that most citizens' first and favourite memory of the last general election is of Martin Bell. It is quality independent candidates that a good proportional representation system should encourage, forcing big party candidates to focus more on the constituency.
