Katy Perry leads MTV Video Music Awards nominations

The nominees for the 28th MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were released July 20, with Katy Perry, Adele and Kanye West the top contenders for the show scheduled to be telecast August 28 live from the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

With a total of nine nominations, American singer Katy Perry is the top nominee, with nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "Firework."

British singer Adele is up for seven nominations, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "Rolling in the Deep" from her top-selling album 21, and hip hop performer Kanye West is also up for seven nominations, including one for his collaboration with Perry on "E.T."

Other artists nominated multiple times for the cable/satellite channel's "Moonman" trophy include Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, and Foster the People.
