TV hosts Ant and Dec are on course for their first number one single - 17 years after their chart career came to an end.

The duo prompted a download dash for their 1994 hit "Let's Get Ready To Rhumble" after they performed the track on their Saturday Night Takeaway show at the weekend.

It quickly went to the top of the iTunes chart and this morning the Official Charts Company confirmed it was leading the pack for this Sunday's singles chart.

The track has sold 35,000 copies so far this week, although it would have to keep up the momentum all week to be in with a chance of ousting current number one The Saturdays with What About Us.

Ant and Dec had a run of hits in the mid-1990s, with nine songs in the top 40. Their only top 10 hit "Let's Get Ready To Rhumble" peaked at nine.

The pair - whose pop career was a spin-off from their role in kids' TV series Byker Grove - recently admitted they struggled to recall the songs they performed.

In an interview on the Jonathan Ross Show last month, Ant McPartlin admitted: "I can't even name them. They're all pretty bad."
