Rock act Bon Jovi are to play a headline slot and close the show at next year's Isle Of Wight Festival.

The New Jersey band - whose hits include Living On A Prayer - will play the main stage on Sunday 16 June, making their debut at the event.

They join The Stone Roses who were yesterday confirmed to perform at the Isle Of Wight, topping the first night bill on the Friday.

Bon Jovi - who have sold more than 130 million albums in a three-decade career - will be playing their only UK festival performance of 2013.

Frontman Jon Bon Jovi said his group was "honoured" to playing.

"The Isle of Wight Festival is legendary and we're excited to join in the long tradition of rock'n'roll history," he said.

"This will mark our first visit to the island and I expect it will prove to be a highlight of our tour and of 2013."

Promoter John Giddings said: "I can't imagine a better rock band with more hits to close our Sunday night."

This year, artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Noel Gallagher and Jessie J were among the big-name performers.

Tickets go on sale generally tomorrow at 9am with further details about the event, which features three stages, at www.isleofwightfestival.com
