Drive-in concert tour cancelled over local lockdown fears

Concert series was set to feature The Streets and Dizzee Rascal

A drive-in concert series organised by Live Nation has been cancelled over fears surrounding coronavirus.

The tour was set to feature the hit musical Six, and had already sold out in several venues across the UK.

On Wednesday (15 July), the producer of Six, Kenny Wax, said: “We are so very disappointed to have received the news of the cancellation earlier today. The previous hour has been spent telling the 60 members of our company that the job they were about to embark on has disappeared.

“We know that ultimately there is nothing more important than the safety and wellbeing of our company and the Six Queendom [fans]. We look forward to better times.”

Ticket-holders will receive full refunds.

Musical acts including The Streets, Kaiser Chiefs, and Dizzee Rascal were also expected to perform as part of the Live Nation concert series, entitled Live From the Drive-In.

According to promoters, the “latest developments over local lockdowns” meant that the gigs were unable to proceed.

Some other events are still set to go ahead this summer. Supergrass, The Libertines and Maxïmo Park are set to play a gig in Newcastle’s Gosforth Park in August.

While the UK has started to ease its lockdown measures while coronavirus infection rates drop, there remain concerns that the country could face a “second wave” if proper precautions aren’t taken.

Local lockdowns could be enforced in towns and cities across the nation. The first such lockdown was implemented in Leicester following a spike in local cases.
