There are quite a few real-life romances at this year’s Eurovision, and one of the most talked-about is Spain’s entry: Alfred Garcia and Amaia Romero.

The couple have performed their song at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest (follow our liveblog here).

Fans have been going wild for their fairytale-style love story – so here’s what you should know:

Alfred is a self-taught guitarist, drummer and keyboard player from El Prat de Llobregat in Catalonia, who released a self-produced album when he was just 15-years-old. Aged 17, his debut single “She Looks So Beautiful” won the Audience Award at the Festival Cara B in Barcelona.

Then in 2017 he entered Operación Triunfo – a Spanish reality TV talent show that aims to discover the nation’s next big singing sensation. The contestants receive coaching in various disciplines and prep for X Factor-style live performances at the end of each week. Alfred made it all the way to fourth place, which isn’t too shabby! And this is where he met Amaia.

19-year-old singer Amaia was born and raised in Pamplona in northern Spain, and is currently studying for a degree in piano. She competed in several children’s TV talent shows but found fame when she made it to the fina of Operacion Triunfo alongside Alfred in 201

She went on to win the competition in February 2018, taking the title with 46% of the public vote.

The couple earned fans across the country with their take on La La Land’s “City of Stars”, and were chosen by the public to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

Their song is called “Tu Cancion” (Your Song) and was written by Raúl Gómez and Sylvia Santoro.
