Glastonbury 2015: Emily Eavis dismisses Prince rumours as 'completely untrue'

The legendary pop star has already made several surprise appearances in London this year

One of the organisers of the Glastonbury Festival has denied rumours that pop star Prince was due to play at this year’s event.

Emily Eavis took to Twitter to say that the reports the 56-year-old music legend was going to be appearing and had pulled out were unfounded.

Posting on the social media site to her 77,000 followers she wrote, “Tabloid reports today about Prince playing or pulling out are unfounded and completely untrue. We'll unveil all the stages soon!”

Prince has made a series of surprise appearances in London earlier this year. Described as “guerrilla gigs”, the “Purple Rain” singer played at the Electric Ballroom in Camden and the home of musician Liane La Havas in Leyton in February.

At the time he was asked if he would consider performing at Glastonbury.

"Do you want me to play there tomorrow?" he told the BBC before explaining he was "concentrating on these shows in London, I don't know what's happening after".

Over 70 acts playing at this year’s music festival were announced last week, including Pharrell Williams, Florence and the Machine and Patti Smith. Kanye West and Foo Fighters were already announced as headlining acts.

Emily, who is the daughter of the Glastonbury Festival’s founder Michael Eavis, also told her Twitter followers that the resale tickets were sold out in a record-breaking 11 minutes.

This year’s Glastonbury Festival will be taking place between 24 – 28 June at Worthy Farm.
