Rapper J Hus has been arrested in London and charged with carrying a knife.

The 23-year-old musician, whose real name is Momodou Jallow, was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife or bladed article after police stopped a vehicle near Westfield Stratford City shopping centre on Thursday afternoon.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers in a marked police car stopped a vehicle in International Way E20 at about 12.35pm on Thursday 21 June.

“The occupants of the vehicle were searched and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife/bladed article.”

He was denied bail at Thames Magistrates Court on Friday and has been remanded into custody, where he will remain until his trial on 20 July.

J Hus is a Mobo award-winning artist, nominated for three Brit awards this year, who exploded onto the scene after his debut album, Common Sense, was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2016. Last year, he appeared on Stormzy’s album Gang Signs & Prayer.

He had several upcoming gigs on his schedule, including London’s Wireless Festival on 7 July, though these appearances have now been thrown into doubt.
