Jessie J has admitted that she finds the current lack of UK love for her music baffling when she is “celebrated as one of the greatest” across the pond.

The “Flashlight” singer was born and raised in London but, despite past chart success, she has never been asked to perform at the Brit Awards.

Jessie J enjoyed hit singles with “Domino”, “Price Tag” and “Do It Like a Dude” in 2011 but she believes her talent has been somewhat overlooked in her homeland since then.

“It makes me sad,” she told Women’s Health. “I’ve done the Grammys, the VMAs…my profile in America is that I’m kind of celebrated as one of the greatest singers and I love it.”

Jessie J has never been one to shy away from the spotlight, nor fake modesty. “I wanna be up there with the Celine Dions, the Whitneys, the Beyoncés and Arethas,” she continued, setting her ambitions sky-high.

“I go hard because I hope and pray that one day, people look back and go, ‘She could really f**king sing, you know’. Which is why I keep going.”

Jessie J was especially prominent in the UK during her turn as a judge on singing contest The Voice. She was criticised by some viewers for appearing “obnoxious” and attention-seeking while music critics have noted her tendency to oversing. Others, however, have praised her “monster voice” and “confidence that money can’t buy”. Clearly, opinions remain divided.

Jessie J’s latest album Sweet Talker peaked at number five in the UK last year, with lead single “Bang Bang” (ft. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj) reaching the top spot.
