Katy Perry responds to Catfish episode about man who thought they'd been dating for six years
'I felt bad for him, and so I didn't really like to indulge in that'
One of MTV series Catfish's most alarming cases presented itself last week when an episode focused on a man who believed he had been in a six-year relationship with US singer Katy Perry.
Spencer Morrill described to presenters Nev Schulman and Max Joseph how he was under the impression he'd been exchanging emails and texts with her Perry over half a decade going so far as to make an engagement ring for the "Roar" singer which cost him "25 percent of his savings."
Perry commented on the episode following an appearance on SiriusXM radio show.
A bewildered Schulman and Joseph went on to discover that the woman Morrill thought was Perry was actually a woman named Harriet who lives in Gloucester.
In the episode, the woman offers Morrill an apology for stringing him along all this time.
"I just got to a point to where I couldn’t imagine like not talking to you," she explained. "I’ve been through some tough times throughout the time we’ve been talking the past six years. Like my dad died two years ago... I’m like genuinely sorry. I can’t change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong."
