Before she was writing pop bangers, Katy Perry recorded and performed with P.O.D., that awful band you’d occasionally catch on Scuzz.

It wasn’t kept a secret, but it is only coming to everyone’s attention now thanks to a spot by the succinctly-named publication, Metal Sucks.

Perry contributed vocals to P.O.D.’s track ‘Goodbye For Now’, and can be seen below towards the end of the music video for it:

She also performed with them at shows for a while - here she is doing backing vox on MTV:

This was all happening while Perry was trying to carve out a solo career. She recorded a debut album for Columbia in 2004 only to be dropped by the label as it neared completion.

After a brief stint working at an A&R company she was picked up signed to Capitol Records however, and broke through with ‘I Kissed A Girl’, which went to number one in the US Billboard Hot 100.
