The alt-country singer's latest video is a riff on a Spaghetti Western

Lindi Ortega doesn't do traditional country: instead the singer opts for a gothic alternative to the mainstream route.

The 37-year-old Canadian musician proves she once again strays form the norm as she prepares to release her seventh studio album Liberty.

Recorded at Battle Tapes studio in East Nashville, Ortega bonded over her affinity for Quentin Tarantino movies with producer Skylar Wilson - something that helped craft the sonic landscape of the album.

Liberty became a concept album broken down into three parts, exploring loss séance, resurrection and freedom.

While Ortega penned half of the twelve tracks solo, she also enlisted co-writers Aaron Raitiere, Bruce Wallace and John Paul White to assist with Liberty.

Premiering below is the video for "Liberty" - directed by Travis Nicholson, the executive producer on CMT's Still The King.

The track diverges from her vintage, country flair and finds itself exploring her Mexican lineage, which is weaved through her forthcoming record.

Shot in black-and-white, Nicholson aimed to create a throwback video that pays tribute to old Western flicks with a modern twist.

"It was important for me that we had wild horses in the video because, for me, wild horses represent ultimate freedom and liberation, as well as physical strength and beauty," said the country singer.

Ortega's new album Liberty is due May 25.
