Bob Geldof hasn't played with the Boomtown Rats' since 1986 (PA)

"It's time to re-Rat, to go back to Boomtown for a visit," Bob Geldof said as he announced the Irish post-punk outfit that really don't like Mondays were to reform for shows including a Sunday-night spot at the Isle of Wight Festival.

Let it say nothing for the Boomtown Rats' standing that they're squeezed on the bill between retro-soul peacock Paloma Faith and hot-dog vendor Newton Faulkner on a bill headlined by Bon Jovi.

And it's probably fair to suggest they could be facing 50,000 blank faces until "I Don't Like Mondays", but that's no big deal if you've saved the world twice (and have "Rat Trap" up your sleeve for the encore). It's the first time Geldof has played with the band since 1986 so it's probably about time to, er, re-Rat. But presumably this is no Filthy Lucre Tour as Geldof – with his TV fortune – doesn't need festival promoters to (sorry) show him the money. All together now, "what reason do you need to be show-ow-ow-ow-own"?
