Pharrell Williams ends 2013 at number one with 'Happy'

The rapper forced X Factor winner Sam Bailey into second place on Sunday

US rapper Pharrell Williams has taken the final UK number one single of 2013 with "Happy" after the track, which features in 3D animated comedy Despicable Me 2, sold 107,000 copies in the last week.

The Grammy-nominated singer has enjoyed a successful year, topping the chart with the two best-selling songs of 2013, collaborating with Daft Punk on “Get Lucky” and again with Robin Thicke on “Blurred Lines”.

The music video for "Happy", a massive 24-hour long interactive film directed by Tyler the Creator, follows a cast of hundreds as they dance through the streets of Los Angeles.

On Sunday, Williams knocked X Factor winner Sam Bailey into second place with her Demo Lovato cover “Skyscraper”, while “Hey Brother” by Swedish DJ Avicii climbed to third.

Jason Derulo’s “Trumpets” has finished the year in fourth with Eminem and Rihanna’s “The Monster” in fifth.

Completing the top ten are Lily Allen’s Keane cover "Somewhere Only We Know", Ellie Goulding’s "How Long Will I Love You", Katy Perry’s "Roar", One Direction’s "Story of My Life" and One Republic’s "Counting Stars".

There have been re-entries from Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams’ "Blurred Lines" and Jessie J’s "It’s My Party" at numbers 39 and 40 respectively, while Beyoncé and Jay Z’s "Drunk in Love" has debuted at number 29.

Robbie Williams has remained at the top of the Official UK Albums Chart with Swings Both Ways after the record became the UK’s 1000th number one album in November.
