Pixies announce new album Head Carrier out in September

The first single from the second album since their 2014 comeback, 'Um Chagga Lagga', is streaming now

Pixies have once more returned to delight the world's earholes.

Following up from their 2014 comeback album Indie Cindy, which combined the tracks from each of their EP releases from the previous year, the band are now set to release their second post-reunion album.

Pixies' website has announced Head Carrier will receive a 30 September release; with the first single from that album, "Um Chagga Lagga", currently streaming.

It's certainly intended as the completist vision of Pixies' post-reunion identity; marking the first opportunity for the band to fully plan out the album before recording in London in February, spending six weeks in pre-production, penning and arranging tracks before whittling down to a final 12 songs.

"This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out," drummer David Lovering stated (via The Guardian). "By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make Indie Cindy."

It also marks the first album to feature Paz Lenchantin on bass, who previously played with A Perfect Circle and Zwan; replacing Kim Shattuck who left in 2014, herself replacing original member Kim Deal after her departure in 2013.

The album artwork is created by longtime collaborator Vaughan Oliver, who worked with the band during the '80s and 90s as art director for their former label 4AD. The special limited edition deluxe box set of the album features both the CD and vinyl releases, alongside a 24-page booklet.
