Following Prince’s death on the 21 April, numerous artists and fans have paid tribute to the iconic singer.
There has also been lots of previously unseen footage and interviews that have emerged online, such as Prince playing at a concert put on by SNL and a previously unpublished cover interview with The Rolling Stone.
Thanks to The Prince Museum, some rare footage of Kendrick Lamar on stage alongside Prince and 3rdEyeGirl at his Paisley Park Studios has emerged online.
The track performed by the group is “What’s My Name”, an obscure cut from Prince’s 1998’s Crystal Ball album. Lamar adds his own verses at the beginning and end of the song, with The Purple One’s backing band adding an electrified solo.
The pair were previously meant to work together on the track “Complextion” from Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. They even booked studio time together, but things unfortunately fell through.

“Prince heard the record, loved the record and the concept of the record got us to talking,” Lamar said at the time. “We got to a point where we were just talking in the studio and the more time that passed we realized we weren’t recording anything. We just ran out of time, it’s as simple as that.”
