IDLES headline The Independent's stage at Standon Calling

Another year, another successful Standon Calling. The music event took place over the weekend at its traditional location near the village of Standon, Hertfordshire.

Once again, The Independent had its own stage (Laundry Meadows), which was headlined by IDLES, Kate Nash and The Big Moon, with plenty of fantastic performances in between.

Assistant video editor Matt Murphy was among the Independent team members who went along to enjoy a weekend of live music.

"Standon seemed to strike the right balance between acts and atmosphere," he said. "You could move about freely in front of the main stage despite the hoard of big-name acts like Nile Rodgers and Lewis Capaldi, despite the big crowds they drew.

"An energetic Friendly Fires got the Saturday night party going, despite the rain. Capaldi in particular was on excellent form with his powerhouse vocals and self-deprecating stage patter, then Rodgers and Chic rounded things off in style as he rolled off an extended list of his biggest collaborations through the years. That was enough to send people home with smiles on their faces."

Standon Calling will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2020, returning between 23-26 July. Limited EarlyBird tickets are on sale now from: https://standon-calling.com/tickets/
