Stranger Things soundtrack to get live performance

S U R V I V E will be slamming synths at a Polish festival

If the news that the Stranger Things soundtrack is getting a formal release appealed to your 80s synth appetite, you’ll be pleased to hear there’s going to be the opportunity to see it in all its ominous glory live.

Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein's OST will get its live world premiere at Kraków's Unsound Festival on 22 October.

The theme of this year’s festival is dislocation, and it will also see performances from Death Grips, AAROS and Aisha Devi.

Both volumes of the Stranger Things soundtrack will be available through Lakeshore Records 19 August, digitally at first with a physical release to follow in September.

“The directors were previously fans of [their band] S U R V I V E,” Dixon explained. “They used a song from our first LP in a trailer they made to pitch their concept to Netflix. Once the show was picked up, they reached out to see if we were available to score the show.”

Stein added: “We discussed having a classic tone and feel to the music for the show but being reserved enough that it wasn't ’80s cheese, while offering a refreshing quality so that felt modern. This was one of the qualities that drew them to our music in the first place. Having a familiarity with classic synths worked, but with an overall forward thinking approach.”
