Beyoncé's appearance in the Super Bowl halftime show saw the superstar doff her cap to her idol Michael Jackson.

Surrounded by a collection of dancers dressed in outfits influenced by revolutionary black nationalist party Black Panthers, the singer herself was kitted in a black and gold military jacket - one that was unquestionably honouring the late pop icon who dressed in the exact same outfit during his performance at the Super Bowl halftime show in 1993.

The singer has been vocal in the past about how much Jackson has influenced her career. Writing on her website five years after his death, she said: “Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am.”

Beyoncé's performance followed Coldplay who kicked off the show; despite appearing in the British band's video for their song "Hymn for the Weekend," the singer sung her own track "Formation," the surprise new single she dropped on Saturday (6 February).

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson also appeared, providing a rendition of hit single "Uptown Funk" - but Beyoncé has been deemed the show's highlight.

Following her performance, Beyoncé announced a brand new stadium tour which will take her around the world from April. Tickets are due to go on sale next week, with the "Single Ladies" singer set to play Wembley Stadium in June.
