Sea Moya unveil new track 'Photographs' - premiere
The psychadelic group have been drawing on influences such as Sinkane, Toro Y Moi and Tame Impala
Cologne/Mannheim based three-piece Sea Moya are gearing up for the release of their new EP 'Baltic States'.
The psychadelic group have been drawing on influences such as Sinkane, Toro Y Moi and Tame Impala - saying they want listeners to think about "places you want to travel to, dreams you have and people you want to meet".
So far what the band have produced speaks of a keen ambition - there are flashes of brilliance in the way they construct complex bass lines to run beneath simple vocal samples.
We're premiering their new track 'Photographs' - check it out and let us know what you think.
Q&A with Sea Moya
What are you listening to at the moment?
We're listening to various kinds of music ranging from Afrobeat to Electronic Music, 60s style Psychedelic to Hip Hop. Some favorites at the moment are: Ofege - Try and Love, Pharao Sanders - Elevation, Floating Points - Elaenia & Klaus Johann Grobe - Spagat der Liebe
What are your plans for the rest of 2016?
Our second EP called 'Baltic States' will be out the 26th of August. We're in the middle of a nice and packed festival summer which will continue till the end of September. Apart from that we're already gathering ideas and jamming around with new song snippets, trying to find a direction for the next record. This is always an interesting step, as everything's quite open and experimenting with song structures, sounds and aesthetics is the daily business.
What was the first gig you played, and what’s been the best so far?
There's that utterly amazing festival called Jetztmusikfestival in Mannheim, Germany. The line-up is quite intense every year, showcasing artists like Dean Blunt, Nils Frahm and the likes in locations that never been music venues before.
Additionally there's an old public bathing place transformed into an art space and nightclub. We had our first show in that special place in March 2015 and it's been quite an outstanding night for us as all our friends were listening to our music for the very first time. The energy in that weird space was fabulous.
Naming one best show is not so easy. But one of this year’s highlights was definitely Fusion Festival. Everything about it was just very special. In terms of how we played maybe not our best concert but the crowd, the setting, the huge and beautiful festival area, the vibe of the whole thing and of our show was very unique. We won’t ever forget that show and the night after.
Sea Moya's new EP Baltic States is out on 26 August
