Gordon Honeycombe, former BBC news presenter, on the new-look BBC news: 'I thought it was very smart, but I wish the BBC would find a colour other than dark blue for the Nine O'Clock News as it makes the news even more gloomy. And Anna Ford still looks as if she's just come from a funeral. The set seemed to be reflecting the content of the news - it seemed to signify death and disaster. They need to brighten both the set and the presentation which has become very serious. I actually always thought the Nine O'Clock News was very good; I don't think they can go beyond it other than having a complete rethink about what constitutes news.'
