What Is It?

Jude Kelly's enjoyable, courageous production of MGM's glorious 1952 musical classic sending up the early days of Hollywood. Kelly combines screen and live action for a contemporary feel. Stephen Mears choreography goes some way towards reprising Gene Kelly's exuberant blend of dance and athleticism.

Who's In It?

Paul Robinson makes a splash in the Gene Kelly role (he took a fall in the wet title-sequence on the opening night but recovered well). Zoe Hart excels as Kathy Selden while Rebecca Thornhill steals the show as Lina.

What They Say About It

"The runaway winner of the best musical screenplay is Singin' in the Rain," David Benedict, The Independent.

"You would almost certainly have to be comatose, quite possibly actually dead, not to enjoy this stage version... if there turns out to be a better theatrical treat to be had this Christmas, I'll eat my tapshoes," Lyn Gardner, The Guardian.

"Kelly's production is full of delightful detail, but it could be much more tightly focused," Nigel Cliff, The Times.

"No, the stage version isn't as good as the film, but there's much pleasure to be had in watching this plucky company gallantly attempting to match a masterpiece," Charles Spencer, The Daily Telegraph.

Where You Can See It
