Ashton Kutcher to replace Charlie Sheen on ‘Two and a Half Men’

After much speculation, it was reported on May 12 that Ashton Kutcher would be replacing Charlie Sheen on the No. 1 television comedy Two and a Half Men, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When the news broke, Kutcher wrote on his famed Twitter account, "What's the square root of 6.25?" The answer is - 2-1/2.

The actor, who costarred with Natalie Portman in the recent hit romantic-comedy, No Strings Attached, is scheduled to join the sitcom's upcoming ninth season this fall, along with costars Emmy winning Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones.

The show's creator Chuck Lorre has devised a way to introduce Kutcher's character into the storyline.

Kutcher's first television series was That 70's Show, 1998-2006, with Topher Grace and Mila Kunis, about teenagers in the seventies. He also executive produced the MTV celebrity prank show Punk'd.

British romantic-comedy actor Hugh Grant ( Love Actually, Bridget Jones) had apparently considered jumping onboard Two and a Half Men but as of May 11 decided to pass.

Actor Charlie Sheen was retired from the show in March after a series of scandals. He played the role of Charlie, a philandering bachelor, advertising jingle writer and sarcastic brother of Cryer's character.

Sheen has recently been touring US theaters with a stand-up routine to mixed reviews. He will appear in the romantic comedy She Wants Me with Hilary Duff in 2011.
