It's bad news for Nashville fans; ABC's country music television series has been cancelled after four seasons.

Since it began in 2012, the show has earned a dedicated fan base, however, viewing figures never correlated placing it in line for cancellation year in year out.

Unfortunately, the series' luck has run out with Nashville's upcoming season four finale serving as its last ever episode.

The series, created by Callie Khouri (the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Thelma & Louise), follows the lives of fictitious country singers in the Tennessee capital. Connie Britton heads the cast as fading star Rayna Jaymes who locks heads throughout the series with Hayden Panettiere's rising star Juliette Barnes.

Nashville isn't the only series to have been given the chop. Marvel spin-off Agent Carter, The Muppets and Castle have also suffered the axe of ABC.

Panettiere's breakthrough came with the role of cheerleader Claire Bennett in fantasy series Heroes, the recent reboot of which - Heroes: Reborn - got axed after a single season.

Britton - who starred in the first season of FX anthology series American Horror Story - is perhaps most renowned for her role of Tami Taylor in beloved drama Friday Night Lights. The series focused on a high school football team in small-town America.

Let's hope Nashville's cancellation frees up Britton for a reunion with her former on-screen husband Kyle Chandler. We don't care what in; anything will do.
