Amy Winehouse documentary debuts on BBC iPlayer with unseen footage of singer saying good artists are 'their own worst enemies'

The programme includes footage from Later With Jools Holland, Winehouse's Glastonbury performance and the 2004 Mercury Music Prize

Previously unseen footage of Amy Winehouse features in a new BBC iPlayer documentary that sees the singer telling the camera that a good singer has to be “their own worst enemy”.

Amy Winehouse In Her Own Words features unseen performances from a BBC One session in 2007 just after the success of her album Back To Black made her an international name.

The documentary, which is available to watch on iPlayer now, also includes footage from Later With Jools Holland, coverage of her Glastonbury performance and the 2004 Mercury Music Prize.

BBC Music editor James Stirling said: “We're honoured to pay tribute to Amy with a programme featuring exclusive unseen and rare footage from her performances at the BBC. Amy wrote smart, sad, soulful and original pop songs that became instant classics and inspired a generation.”

Amy Winehouse In Her Own Words follows the debut of Senna director Asif Kapadia’s acclaimed documentary AMY at Cannes.

The film, which gained five star reviews across the board, also features unseen footage of the late singer, charting her downward spiral as media attention began to take a grip over her life.

Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011 aged 27 after a public struggle with drink and drugs.
