Andy Newton Lee: Former Hollyoaks actor put in coma after collapsing at wheel of car
Lee was awoken from the coma earlier this week
Andy Newton Lee was placed in a coma after collapsing at the wheel of his car.
The actor – who has appeared in Casualty, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks – was reportedly found in his car near his home in Los Angeles last Thursday (23 May).
Hull Live reports that Lee was diagnosed with pneumonia after being admitted to hospital and placed into a coma. He was woken on Wednesday (29 May) morning.
Lee told the publication that he had a cough for six to eight weeks and was ”burning the candle at both ends” before getting poorly. He had decided to take a nap in his car when he fell ill and was found by a passerby.
“I’ve been really run down and stressed for a bit with my business,” Lee said. ”I’ve had a cold and the flu but I thought I was just run down.
“I’ve done marathons, going to yoga and the gym, flying back to London every second week and burning the candle at both ends.”
He added: “It’s definitely a wake up call to anyone who has respiratory problems.”
Lee said that the recovery period will be “as long as a piece of string”, adding that he is “looking forward to getting home”.
