Better Call Saul season 2: Walter White will appear at some point, Vince Gilligan finally concedes

It's all a matter of timing in terms of storytelling and Bryan Cranston's scheduling

After months of 'maybe we'll see him at some point' avoidances, Vince Gilligan has given the clearest indication yet that Breaking Bad's Walter White will make an appearance in Better Call Saul, albeit not in season 2.

The co-creator said it's not so much a case of if but when, with the timing having to be right both in terms of the storytelling and the BB actors' busy schedules.

"It would be great to see Walter White on Better Caul Saul," Gilligan told the Daily News.

"It would be a shame if the show had its run - hopefully a very long run - and he never appeared."

But "I have to be coy," he cautioned.

"All of the wonderful characters who may eventually appear on Better Call Saul will appear when it is most organic and fitting to the storytelling of Better Caul Saul and also when we can work out scheduling issues with actors. I would love to see that personally."

It was wise that Gilligan and Peter Gould avoided using Walt or Jesse in season one, allowing the show to establish itself as its own beast, with only Tuco from Breaking Bad being used for an episode ending cliffhanger.

If the show prospers in its own right, it would be nice to see Walt pop up at some point, perhaps in a very subtle and fleeting moment.

Having been behind the camera for Breaking Bad, Cranston is expected to direct an episode of Better Call Saul at some point.

"We are greedy because we would love to see Bryan direct an episode aside from acting in it at some point," Gilligan added.

Better Call Saul season 2 is expected to arrive on AMC and Netflix in 2016.
