Better Call Saul Season 4 teaser

The new season of Better Call Saul will have a direct link to Breaking Bad.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould confirmed that the new batch of episodes will introduce a subplot that “very squarely gets in Breaking Bad territory.”

They added: “[It] brings us into the world - or at least points us on a path towards the world of Walter White and the territory of Walter White.”

Breaking Bad showrunner Gilligan's words mean that we won't be getting a Bryan Cranston cameo anytime soon (that's “a few years off,” according to Gould) however fans are undoubtedly holding out for an appearance from characters Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) or - more likely - Hank Schrader (Dean Norris).

Gilligan previously told The Independent that the new season will be similar in tone to his previous show, stating: “In season 4, I mean, it’s… it’s… it’s very much like Breaking Bad. There’s some great stuff coming up. As with [that show], there’s humour wherever we can find it provided it’s legitimate and well-earned. but those moments of earning it are now fewer and far between.

The plot synopsis for the fourth season, which sees the return of Bob Odenkirk Rhea Seehorn and Jonathan Banks, confirmed the death of McGill's brother Chuck (Michael McKean) who perished in a blaze as the third season drew to a close.

Better Call Saul returns to AMC in the US on 6 August with its UK premiere arriving the following day on Netflix
