Chrissy Teigen takes break from Twitter after ‘crappy’ cookbook controversy

Teigen has responded to comments made by fellow cookbook author Alison Roman

Chrissy Teigen is stepping back from Twitter after a fellow cookbook author made controversial comments about her career.

Teigen announced on Sunday she would be “taking a little break” from the platform, writing: “This is what always happens.

“The first day, a ton of support, then the next one million reasons as to why you deserved this. It never fails.”

By Monday, Teigen’s Twitter account had been switched to private, meaning her tweets could be accessed only by approved followers.

Controversy mounted throughout the weekend over remarks made by food writer Alison Roman in an interview with The New Consumer.

Roman, who has published the cookbooks Nothing Fancy and Dining In, said in part: “Like, what Chrissy Teigen has done is so crazy to me. She had a successful cookbook. And then it was like: Boom, line at Target. Boom, now she has an Instagram page that has over a million followers where it’s just, like, people running a content farm for her.

“That horrifies me and it’s not something that I ever want to do. I don’t aspire to that. But like, who’s laughing now? Because she’s making a ton of f****** money.”

Teigen has authored the cookbooks Cravings and Cravings: Hungry for More, and she’s also behind the Cravings website and community.

She originally reacted to Roman’s comments on Twitter, writing in part: “It has been crappy to deal with this all day, but I couldn’t not say something. I know the actual tears I put into the work I do, and it’s really hard to see someone try to completely invalidate it. Someone I really liked.”

Roman has apologised to Teigen on the platform, telling her: “Hi @chrissyteigen! I sent an email but also wanted to say here that I’m genuinely sorry I caused you pain with what I said. I shouldn’t have used you /your business (or Marie’s!) as an example to show what I wanted for my own career – it was flippant, careless and I’m so sorry.”
