Frasier: Kelsey Grammer 'hearing out ideas' for reboot

The new series would take the character to a new city

While Frasier Krane may have left the building for the last time over 14 years ago, there’s a small chance the beloved psychiatrist may return once more.

Various Hollywood trade press publications are reporting that Kelsey Grammer, who portrayed Frasier for 20 years across two TV shows, has begun hearing out ideas from scriptwriters on how to put together a new series.

Deadline notes that Grammer would likely return as Frasier but the story would take the series to a new city.

Frasier has, of course, travelled across America before: the character debuted in the Bouston-set series Cheers before being given a spin-off series, set in Seattle.

Representative for Grammer and CBS TV have declined to comment, but the report notes that, should a writer be found, the series could move beyond the exploratory stage quickly.

At its height, the series attracted 25 million viewers in the USA and has grown a huge following across the world thanks to re-runs. Created by David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee, the comedy was widely celebrated over its eleven seasons between 1993 and 2004, winning 37 Emmys.

Should Frasier return it would mark another popular sitcom being rebooted: earlier this year, Roseanne returned (and then got cancelled), as did Will & Grace.

Grammar has had a successful career since the series ended, scoring roles in Hollywood movies such as X-Men: The Last Stand, The Expendables 3, and Transformers: Age of Extinction. No role has become as synonymous with the actor as Frasier.
